Carroll’s Carol: The Shaw Festival announces 2017 production of Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol directed by Tim Carroll

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (March 15, 2017) – The Shaw Festival introduces a new annual holiday tradition to Niagara-on-the-Lake: Artistic Director Tim Carroll’s fanciful production of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol previews November 15, opens November 25 and runs through December 23 at the Royal George Theatre.

“With its charming architecture, horse drawn carriages and the annual Candlelight Stroll, Niagara-on-the-Lake is already Canada’s most picturesque Victorian town, where knowing visitors can experience the magic of an old-fashioned Christmas,” says Tim Jennings, Executive Director/CEO of the Shaw Festival. “It seems only natural that A Christmas Carol be a part of the Niagara-on-the-Lake holiday merriment. We hope you’ll gather your loved ones together and make the Shaw Festival’s A Christmas Carol, and Niagara-on-the-Lake, a part of your annual festivities.”

Mr. Carroll, a Charles Dickens expert, directed A Christmas Carol in Norway last year to great acclaim and will breathe life into the new production at the Shaw Festival. Dickens’s masterpiece will feature 10 Shaw Festival ensemble members, along with whimsical puppetry and some exciting stage magic. Set and costumes by Christine Lohre, lighting by Kevin Lamotte, music direction by Paul Sportelli, and movement and puppetry by Alexis Milligan complete the beloved Christmas tale.

“I’ve adored A Christmas Carol all my life and staged it twice, but I’ve never had the chance to make it happen in such a Dickensian town and theatre,” says Tim Carroll, Artistic Director of the Shaw Festival. “It will be my Christmas treat to myself.”

Tickets – which range from $25-$75 – for A Christmas Carol are available through the Box Office at 1-800-511-SHAW and online at www.shawfest.com. Tickets for Friends of the Shaw (formerly known as Members) are on sale now and will be released to the public on March 25.

The Shaw Festival acknowledges the support of Vintage Hotels, the Official Hotel Partner for A Christmas Carol.
