Shaw Festival’s lunchtime production, The Twelve-Pound Look, on stage now

- Wickedly sharp one-act a feminist battle cry from the author of Peter Pan -

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (June 11, 2015) — The Shaw Festival’s production of The Twelve-Pound Look, by prominent 20th century nobleman and writer J.M. Barrie, begins previews today at the Court House Theatre. Lezlie Wade directs this biting comedy that promotes female financial independence and professional fulfilment.

Harry Sims (Patrick Galligan) is being knighted and the typist (Moya O’Connell) hired to answer his messages of congratulations surprisingly turns out to be someone from his past. Harry’s wife, Lady Sims (Kate Besworth), quickly comes to admire the self-assured typist. Recognizing a familiar gaze on Lady Sims’ face, the typist warns Harry that every husband should be wary of the ‘look’ in his wife’s eyes – and that twelve pounds is all she needs to purchase her liberty.

The Twelve-Pound Look features set and costume design by William Schmuck and lighting design by Jennifer Lennon.

The Twelve-Pound Look is on stage at the Court House Theatre (26 Queen Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake) from June 11 to September 12 (Opening June 27) and is sponsored by Vintage Hotels.
