Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls begins previews at The Shaw

- Talented women of the Shaw Festival ensemble showcased in powerful contemporary Shavian work -

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (May 23, 2015) The Shaw Festival’s production of Top Girls, Caryl Churchill’s ground-breaking play, begins previews today at the Court House Theatre. Vikki Anderson, in her Shaw Festival debut, directs the brilliant cross-generational cast of Fiona Byrne, Tara Rosling, Catherine McGregor, Claire Jullien, Laurie Paton, Julia Course and Tess Benger.

Marlene has just been appointed the head of the Top Girls employment agency. In the highly theatrical first act, she hosts a dinner party to celebrate her promotion with iconic women from history who share their stories of struggle and achievement. But Marlene’s success has come at a cost. She escaped the poverty of her youth – which still holds her stay-at-home sister Joyce – with determination, but not without sacrifice.

Designed by Sue LePage, this innovative new interpretation of this contemporary classic features lighting design by Louise Guinand and sound design and original music by Thomas Ryder Payne.

Top Girls is on stage at the Court House Theatre (26 Queens Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake) from May 23 to September 12 (Opening June 26). Top Girls is sponsored by Intersect International.
