Peter and the Starcatcher kicks off Shaw Festival’s 54th season

- Previews of the whimsical adventure set sail April 8 at the Royal George Theatre -

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (April 8, 2015) — The Shaw Festival’s 2015 season launches today with previews of Rick Elice’s Peter and the Starcatcher, the theatrical prequel to J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell helms the voyage from London to unknown enchanted shores in this story of how Peter became Pan. Designer Judith Bowden’s costumes and jungle-gym set, along with Kevin Lamotte’s lighting, transform the Royal George Theatre into this story’s many fanciful locales – from a pirate ship to a grotto full of memorable mermaids. The production also features movement by Valerie Moore and musical direction by Ryan deSouza. Peter and the Starcatcher is an adventure for the young, the young-at-heart and those determined never to grow up.

Using theatrical story-telling, imagination and a dash of humour, Peter and the Starcatcher tells the tale of Boy (Charlie Gallant), an orphan who doesn’t want to become an adult, and Molly Aster (Kate Besworth), a girl charged to protect a precious cargo. With the help of Molly’s father Lord Aster (Patrick Galligan), orphans Ted (Andrew Broderick) and Prentiss (James Daly) and a cast of colourful characters; Molly and Peter fight to keep the treasure safe from the infamous pirate Black Stache (Martin Happer).

The Shaw’s production of Peter and the Starcatcher also features Billy Lake, Graeme Somerville, Jonathan Tan, Kelly Wong, Jenny L. Wright and Shawn Wright.

Peter and the Starcatcher is on stage at the Royal George Theatre (85 Queen Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake) from April 8 to November 1 (Opening May 16). Peter and the Starcatcher is sponsored by Scotiabank.
