Cabaret singing contest winner announced

- Song choice beloved by winner –

Media Release #18

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (August 21, 2014) — The Shaw Festival is pleased to announce the winner of the Sing Away to Cabaret contest. Alisha Ruiss wowed the esteemed panel of judges — Deborah Hay and Juan Chioran, the Shaw Festival’s own Sally Bowles and Emcee; Shaw Festival Music Director Paul Sportelli and Jazz FM’s Heather Bambrick — with her rendition of Cabaret.

“I love every solo Sally Bowles has but I particularly love the song because in it Sally defies the reality around her even as her illusions are beginning to crumble,” said Ms. Ruiss, referring to her song choice.
