Shaw Festival’s sold-out Arcadia part of Mirvish Productions’ 2014-2015 subscription season

Media Bulletin #5

- Original Niagara cast to appear in the Toronto production -

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (March 3, 2014) — The Shaw Festival is pleased to announce its sold-out production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia will be part of Mirvish Productions’ 2014-15 subscription season. This multilayered masterpiece will play at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre from November 4 to December 14, 2014. The production was hailed by Robert Crew of the Toronto Star as “an intellectual workout of the highest order, but one that leaves you exhilarated”, and showcases some of the Festival’s most gifted actors.

Director Eda Holmes will again assemble her brilliant cast and the original creative team of set and costume designer Sue LePage, lighting designer Michelle Ramsay and composer Allen Cole also return.

In 2013, The Shaw’s original Studio Theatre production proved so popular it sold out before performances began, leaving many theatre-goers disappointed. The announcement of its return as part of Mirvish Productions’ subscription series will make this acclaimed production available to audiences for six weeks, both for those who were unable to secure a ticket in 2013 and for the many people who are eager to see it again.

Winner of an Olivier Award and Evening Standard Award for Best Play when it premiered in London in 1993, Arcadia has been called “the greatest play of its time”. The New York Times called it “Tom Stoppard’s richest, most ravishing comedy to date, a play of wit, intellect, language, brio and…emotion.”
