Media Bulletin #2

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (January 23, 2014) — The Shaw Festival today announced details about their special fundraising event that includes a post-show reception featuring food, wine and decor inspired by Nikolaj Arcel’s Oscar-nominated film A Royal Affair on Saturday, February 22 at 7 p.m. The evening begins with a screening of the acclaimed historical drama in The Shaw’s Festival Theatre, with the reception to follow in the Macdonald Heaslip Lounge. Tickets are $85 (film and reception) and $25 (film only). Funds raised will go towards upgrading film projection equipment.

Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Alicia Vikander and Mikkel Følsgaard, A Royal Affair is centred on the love triangle between the increasingly insane Danish King Christian VII, his royal physician Struensee, a man of enlightenment and idealism; and the young, but strong Queen Caroline Mathilda. Their love affair divided a nation and started a revolution.

The Shaw also confirmed that Philomena, the highly acclaimed British comedy-drama, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan will be seen on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Festival Theatre. It has also been confirmed that the February 1 film slot will feature the six-time Oscar-nominated Nebraska, starring Bruce Dern.

Tickets for the 2014 Festival Film Series are $12 per film. Seating is general admission. Advance tickets, same day tickets and tickets to the Festival Film Series fundraiser can be purchased in person at the Shaw Festival Box Office or by calling 1-800-511-SHAW (7429) or locally at 905-468-2172.
