Media Bulletin #9

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, June 7, 2013. . . Peace in Our Time: A Comedy, John Murrell’s adaptation of Bernard Shaw’s Geneva, officially opens tonight in the intimacy of the Court House Theatre. Blair Williams directs this new production featuring Diana Donnelly, Patrick Galligan, Jeff Meadows and Sanjay Talwar, with Neil Barclay, Claire Jullien, Kevin McGarry, Moya O’Connell and Ric Reid.

The celebration continues Saturday with the openings of Trifles, this season’s double-bill lunchtime directed by Meg Roe at the Court House Theatre, and the Peter Hinton-directed Lady Windermere’s Fan at the Festival Theatre. All three productions are prime examples of the Shaw’s commitment to producing theatre that explores new approaches to classic plays in a truly unique and entertaining way.

Representatives from The Shaw’s Board of Governors, Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell, Executive Director Elaine Calder and the rest of the Company will be in attendance to celebrate the work of The Shaw’s creative teams. Joining them will be invited guests from all levels of government, colleagues from the cultural sector, leading patrons and corporate sponsors, most notably His Excellency Ray Bassett, Ambassador of Ireland to Canada; the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, representing Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; Mr. Bob Rae, MP Toronto Centre; and Ms. Andrea Horwath, MPP Hamilton Centre and Leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party.
