Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, February 11, 2013 . . . A sure sign that spring is just around the corner is the return of Shaw Ensemble members from across Canada to start rehearsals in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Preparations for The Shaw’s 52nd season now shift into high gear with the first preview performance of W. Somerset Maugham’s Our Betters just seven weeks away on April 3rd. The Loesser/Swerling/Burrows musical Guys and Dolls will have its first preview performance the following week on April 12th.
The continued return of Acting Ensemble members over the next few weeks also coincides with the start of rehearsals for Major Barbara; Lady Windermere’s Fan; Peace in Our Time: A Comedy; and the lunchtime production Trifles. All four productions will begin preview performances in May.
Tickets are now on sale for the Festival’s 2013 season of 10 plays, which begins on April 3rd. The season officially opens on May 10th with Major Barbara, directed by Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell, and continues until October 27th. Ms. Maxwell will also direct the Shaw Festival premiere of Enchanted April. The popular Play Reading Series also returns this season.
