Media Bulletin #2
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, June 27, 2012 . . . The Shaw Festival and the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake are ready to roll out the welcome mat and receive record crowds this Canada Day weekend. In addition to the annual Canada Day festivities at Fort George and Simcoe Park, the celebrations this year will also include special events marking the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and a concert by Canada’s own Tragically Hip on the Commons at Butler’s Barracks on Saturday, June 30. A traffic management plan that includes shuttle services for concert-goers, one road closure and no parking zones in designated areas will be implemented to minimize disruption during the Canada Day long weekend.
Patrons and visitors planning to visit the Shaw Festival and Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday, June 30 are advised of a change in the performance schedule, road closures and parking restrictions due to the Tragically Hip’s concert. Shaw Festival ticket holders from outside the Niagara Peninsula should plan their trip accordingly and allow for plenty of extra travel time.
In light of the concert’s location and to avoid any impact it may have on the enjoyment of its patrons, the Shaw Festival cancelled evening performances, revised the performance schedule for June 30 and contacted all affected patrons. The new performance schedule can be found at www.shawfest.com/calendar. Patrons attending performances on June 30 are advised that limited parking will be available at the Festival theatre. A map of no parking zones and road restrictions can be found at Tragically Hip Concert Traffic Plan and Map under Hot Topics at www.notl.org. Shaw Festival ticket holders can call 1-800-511-7429 with any questions.
