The Shaw Theatre Festival receives a $2.5 million bequest from philanthropist Mona Campbell

Media Release #14

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, June 9, 2009….The Shaw Festival is pleased to announce a remarkable $2.5 million bequest from long time patron and supporter Mona Campbell who passed away in 2008.

In making the announcement, Executive Director Colleen Blake said: “Mona was a wonderful person and a committed patron of the arts, particularly of The Shaw. She appreciated the value of excellent theatre in our lives and showed great foresight by including us in her estate planning.  We are deeply grateful for her generosity.”

A well-known philanthropist who contributed to many charitable organizations, Mrs. Campbell was a generous Shaw donor for more than twenty years and regularly attended performances. She was recognized in 2001 as Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for her generous contributions to numerous organizations. In 1995, Mrs. Campbell was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.

In the spirit of George Bernard Shaw, the Shaw Festival provokes the mind and stirs the soul through a theatre experience so compelling that, year after year, ever-broadening groups of artists, audiences and supporters are drawn to our work in Niagara-on-the-Lake and beyond.
