Shaw Festival Celebrates Historic Inauguration

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, January 12, 2009 . . . The Shaw Festival is inviting one and all to come and experience the historic inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama on Tuesday, January 20 at the Festival Theatre.

The Shaw plans to broadcast the ceremony, and the events leading up to the inauguration, live in HD from the Festival Theatre stage on a 25′ screen. Doors to the theatre will open at 9:30 am. The broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 2:00 p.m.

In making the announcement, Executive Director Colleen Blake noted: “As a bi-national organization we feel this historic event is something to be shared and celebrated among all our friends.”

Admission to the event is free, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Light refreshments will be available for sale during the event.

Americans represent almost 40% of the Shaw Festival’s audience and Niagara-on-the-Lake is a popular destination for American visitors. The Shaw Festival has a strong history of producing American plays. In 2009 Washington is the backdrop for Garson Kanin’s Born Yesterday, a comedic combination of romance and politics.
